I ordered this bowl for a salad serving bowl for Christmas, when I was expecting a large group. When I received it, it was smaller than I thought it would be (my fault), but would work as a salad serving bowl for up to 4 people, which ended up being fine. Additionally, it does say to hand wash, so I hand washed it before it's first use, and then after serving Christmas dinner. During the 2nd wash, the paint around the bottom of the bowl started to come off. I do tend to wash my dishes with really hot water, so that may have been the problem, but be careful.
