Mix & Match Patterns
Mixing and matching colors and patterns gives your table a modern, fun look. This concept may seem difficult to achieve, but with a few quick tips you’ll be on your way to a perfectly balanced table!
If this is your first foray into playing with color and pattern, you may want to choose one base color and white and work with items that are different shades, shapes, and patterns within this color. For example, in the image above, the color blue is in everything from the dinnerware, to the napkin, to the centerpiece. Each blue is different and each texture is different, but the look remains put-together and simultaneously whimsical!
If you are looking for a bolder statement, try choosing one base color and accenting it with a contrasting color. In the smaller picture, notice how blue has been accented with bright yellow. To achieve this look, make sure you are keeping the scale of your patterns in mind. You should aim to use one large pattern, one medium pattern, and one small pattern. Here you’ll see that the large pattern is in the tablecloth, the medium pattern is on the dinnerware, and the small pattern is featured in the napkin. Even though you are mixing patterns, keeping everything to scale will keep your table looking professionally designed!
