Mix & Match Patterns
Mixing and matching colors and patterns gives your table a modern and fun look. This concept may seem difficult to achieve, but with a few quick tips you’ll be on your way to a perfectly balance table!
If this is your first foray into playing with pattern, you may want to choose one base color and work with items that are different shades, shapes, and patterns within this color and white. For example, in the image above, the color blue is in everything from the dinnerware, to the napkin, to the centerpiece. Each blue is different and each texture is different, but the look remains put-together and simultaneously whimsical!
If you are looking for a bolder statement, try choosing one base color, and accenting it with a contrasting color. In the picture to the left, notice how blue has been accented with a bright yellow. To achieve this look, make sure you are keeping the scale of your patterns in mind. You should aim t o use one large pattern, one medium pattern, and one small pattern. In this example, you’ll see that the large pattern is in the tablecloth, the medium pattern is on the dinnerware, and the small pattern is featured in the napkin. Even though you are mixing patterns, keeping everything to scale will keep your table looking professionally designed!
