I purchased these to use for entree-size salads or soups - just didn't find the 10 oz bowls that are included with a place setting sufficient for that type of use.
The bowls are attractive, sturdy, work wonderfully to hold entrees better suited to a bowl than plate, and could easily work as serving dishes.
Highly recommend.
