These coasters are heavy with cork bottoms to protect the top of furniture. However, the top of the coaster is very smooth and creates a suction betwen the glass or cup which is quite strong and the coaster lifts up with the glass or cup. Before you realize it the coaster falls freely from your glass and falls back down on to the furniture. The weight is so great that it nicks the furniture. I became so frustrated with this imperfection that I actually tossed my eight coaster in the trash. The paper coaster that Pfaltzgraff used to make were much better. If you do purchase the coasters I recommend that you put a napkin or paper coaster between your glass/cup and the heavy coaster. A simple modification to the top of the coaster by Pfaltzgraff creating a top that is not so smooth would probably solve this problem

The set of four seems to do quite well not letting moisture get to our wooden table. The pattern appears that it will last a while.
